ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 12-4 on Wednesday night in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. Greensboro plated five runs in the top of the ninth to salt the contest away after the Tourists garnered some late momentum to pull within three.

Greensboro used a two-run Home Run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Luke Berryhill answered for Asheville with a solo blast to right-center in the bottom of the first. The Grasshoppers added two more runs in the third; however, this time Wilyer Abreu had the response. Abreu lifted a solo Home Run over the light tower in right field that brought the score to 4-2.

Asheville surrendered single runs across each of the next three innings and trailed 7-2 entering the bottom of the seventh. JC Correa plated a run with a hard groundball back up the middle and Berryhill hit his second Home Run of the game; a solo shot to left.

The Tourists trailed 7-4 entering the ninth inning but had some momentum. The Grasshoppers quickly erased that momentum with a five-run frame that included a pair of Tourists errors. Asheville was unable to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth.

Chandler Casey and Mark Moclair each recorded scoreless appearances out of the Asheville bullpen. Juan Pablo Lopez struck out four over his two innings of work. This was Lopez’s first appearance in over six weeks.

The loss evened up the series at one game apiece with game three scheduled for Thursday night at 6:35pm ET.
