Rancho Cucamonga, CA – A six-run third inning was too much to overcome on Thursday evening, as the Quakes dropped an 8-6 decision to the Inland Empire 66ers at LoanMart Field.

Trailing 2-0 going to the third, Inland Empire took advantage of three Rancho errors and tallied a total of six runs to take the lead for good, on their way to their second win in three games in the series.

Thayron Liranzo’s two-run triple gave the Quakes an early 2-0 advantage in the first inning.

After the 66ers took a 6-2 lead, Kyle Nevin cracked his first professional homer, trimming the deficit to 6-3 against Inland Empire starter Jorge Marcheco (4-3).

That would be as close as the Quakes would get though, as Inland got insurance runs in the sixth and ninth, then held off a Rancho rally in the ninth inning, as Dylan Phillips got the final out, as Liranzo fouled out, representing the tying run at the plate.

Rancho reliever Carlos Martinez (0-1) suffered the defeat, as he was charged with four runs in just 1.2 innings.

Rancho (31-17) will go back to work on Friday, but has not yet named a starting pitcher for game four against the 66ers. Inland Empire will go with Jake Madden (0-3), with game time slated for 6:30pm.

Friday is another Family RV Family Feast Night, with $2 hot dogs, $1 Pepsi products and $1 Ice Cream Sandwiches. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
