Bisons Blast Off in 6-2 Win Over Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Pawtucket Red Sox starter Roenis Elías turned in his longest outing of the season, but the Buffalo Bisons utilized the long ball again and never trailed in a 6-2 win over the PawSox on Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium.
Pawtucket (61-68) trimmed a 3-0 deficit to 3-2 in the fourth but could not complete a comeback despite threatening in the eighth and ninth innings. The Bisons (59-70) have hit six home runs and won each of the first two meetings of the four-game series to begin Pawtucket's final homestand of the season. The PawSox have lost five of their last six games.
In his second non-rehab start since his return from an oblique strain, Pawtucket starter Roenis Elias (L, 1-4) fanned seven in seven innings - both season-bests - while ceding 10 hits and four runs.
PawSox shortstop Deven Marrero (2-for-3) extended his season-long hitting streak to 10 games, during which he's 17-for-38 (.447).
Buffalo starter Joe Biagini (W, 1-1) spun seven sterling innings of two-run ball, didn't walk a batter and punched out five. Right-handed reliever Leonel Campos (S, 8) struck out the side in the eighth - despite placing runners at the corners - and stranded two more in the ninth.
A night after drilling four homers in the series-opening win, Buffalo started the scoring in the top of the first with a two-out solo blast from No. 3 hitter and right fielder Teoscar Hernández (4-for-5, 3 R, 2 HR, 3B, 3 RBI).
With two outs in the top of the third, Buffalo strung together three straight hits, including a pair of RBI bloopers to center - one of which was lost in the twilight sky - from first baseman Rowdy Tellez and catcher Danny Jansen, to stretch the advantage to 3-0.
Pawtucket pulled within one, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth when third baseman Matt Dominguez skied a ball into the wind and near the wall in left field, where Buffalo outfielder Jon Berti had the ball deflect off his glove and out of the yard into the bullpen.
Berti exacted a measure of revenge in the top of the sixth when he laced a two-out RBI single up the middle to plate designated hitter Mike Ohlman and widen the margin to 4-2.
Like Jansen in Monday's opener, Hernandez approached the plate in the ninth inning needing a double for the cycle. And like Jansen, Hernandez instead went deep, lifting a two-run jack to right-center again.
The PawSox continue their four-game series with the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at McCoy Stadium. PawSox right-hander Kyle Kendrick (3-7, 6.48) is scheduled to oppose Bisons righty Murphy Smith (4-4, 3.66).
