Before the wagon starts rolling to the start of the hockey season in downtown Buffalo, the Bisons are thrilled to once again partner with the Buffalo Sabres for the 6th annual Hockey Day at the Ballpark, Saturday, September 5, as the Herd hosts the Worcester Red Sox at 6:05 p.m., presented by Legends Global (Gates 4:30 p.m.).
An annual tradition, Hockey Night at the Ballpark will feature a Ceremonial First Pitch from Sabres forward, Josh Doan, as well as an appearance from Sabretooth, a pregame Prospects/Alumni Autograph Session from 4:30-5:30 p.m., a Sabres Prize Wheel and Hockey Shots inflatable and a postgame Fireworks Show to cap off an amazing night at Sahlen Field!
Prospects/Alumni Autograph Session
We're opening the Sahlen Field Gates early on Saturday for a special pregame Prospects/Alumni Autograph Session* with the Buffalo Sabres from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Oak St. Gate Plaza.
Our hard-hitting lineup of guests includes Sabres Hall of Famer Rob Ray, alum Patrick Kaleta and prospect defensemen, Zach Metsa and Gavin McCarthy. The autograph session will be split into two lines (Line A: Ray & Metsa, Line B: Kaleta & McCarthy) and fans will be allowed one signed item per player in their line (no photos please, *subject to change).
The Oak St. Gate Plaza is also where the Sabres Prize Wheel & Hockey Shots activations will be as well as all pregame mascot appearances, so fans are encouraged to head down the 3B line upon entering the ballpark.
The Bisons game on September 5th is also the team’s last Labatt-urday Night of the season, featuring $4 Blue/Blue Light specials from 4:30-7:00 p.m., special in-game prizes from Labatt’s and the chance for one lucky fan to win ‘Beer for a Year’ if a Bisons player homers off the giant Labatt’s inflatable in right field.

The Buffalo Sabres open their 2026-2027 season on October 1st in Columbus against the Blue Jackets, just 27 days after Hockey Night at the Ballpark. The Sabres Home Opener is set for Saturday, October 3 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Doan is coming off a tremendous Sabres debut season in 2025-2026 after scoring 25 goals, including nine powerplay goals, and adding 27 assists in 82 games for Buffalo. He then recorded 10 points (3+7) in 13 games during the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs.
