BUFFALO, N.Y. – Three Buffalo Bisons pitchers combined to strikeout seven batters, but the offense was unable to get past the Rochester Red Wings in a 3-1 loss on Thursday afternoon at Sahlen Field.

Richard Gallardo’s final start of the season lasted six innings where he scattered seven hits and three earned runs. The right-hander struck out three batters without allowing a walk.

The Red Wings were able to strike first against Gallardo to help open up a one-run lead in the top of the first inning. Trey Lipscomb hit a one-out single and scored one batter later thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Cayden Wallace. His 12th RBI since being promoted from Harrisburg gave Rochester a 1-0 lead.

However, the Bisons had the quick answer in the bottom of the second inning, despite a ground ball double play that helped limit the runs scored by the team. Yohendrick Piñango opened up the inning with a double to left field and moved to third base on a base hit by Jay Harry. Lenyn Sosa bounced into a double play to retire the second baseman and Harry, but tied the game 1-1 after two.

The visitors tacked on solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings against Gallardo, respectively, to re-take the lead. Each inning was started by a leadoff single that eventually scored later in the inning. Liover Peguero led off the fifth with a single to left field, scoring thanks to a Seaver King RBI base hit.

Wallace began the top of the sixth with his second hit of the game and scored for the first time two batters later. Leandro Pineda doubled to left field, driving in Wallace and extending the advantage to 3-1 over Buffalo through six innings.

The Bisons’ pitching staff did not allow a walk in the loss to Rochester. Daniel Guerra and Lazaro Estrada combined to work the final three innings after Gallardo’s start. The three right-handers combined for seven combined strikeouts and surrendered 10 total hits.

The two teams continue the series on Friday night with a 6:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. It is Fan Appreciation Night at Sahlen Field as well. CJ Van Eyk is slated to start for Buffalo in game four of the six-game set. Pregame on The Bet 1520 AM, the Audacy app, and Bisons.com begins at 5:45 p.m. with the ‘Voice of the Bisons’ Pat Malacaro and Paul Hamilton.
