Bisons outscored by double digits in two-loss Friday night to Worcester

Buffalo, N.Y. - On Friday night at Sahlen Field, the Buffalo Bisons fell in extra innings in a suspended game and saw an offensive explosion against them in a full game in which they managed only three hits against the Worcester Red Sox, losing both games 6-4 and 10-0. They were the Herd’s sixth and seventh losses in their last eight games.

The Bisons and WooSox began by resuming Thursday’s game, which was tied at 3 through nine innings. In the 10th, a walk and a flyout put runners at the corners for Vinny Capra, who hit a three-run home run off Lazaro Estrada to give Worcester a 6-3 lead.

Seth Martinez entered in the 10th, and two strikeouts and a groundout sandwiched between a Carlos Mendoza RBI single sealed Buffalo’s loss in the suspended game.

In the second game, CJ Van Eyk made the start for Buffalo, and the WooSox got two men on with a single and a double, then Nate Eaton brought home the game’s first run with a one-out sacrifice fly.

In the fourth, a pair of singles to start gave Nathan Hickey a scoring chance, and he delivered a three-run homer to extend Worcester’s lead to 5-0. After that, a one-out single was followed by a two-run homer by Braiden Ward.

Meanwhile, John Holobetz made the start for Worcester, and outside of a pair of two-out singles in the third, the Herd only managed one baserunner against him through the first four innings.

Buffalo managed three baserunners against Holobetz in innings five and six, but failed to score any of them.

Austin Marozas was Buffalo’s first man out of the bullpen, and he pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth. He was aided by Ismael Munguia picking up his second outfield assist of the season in the sixth. Munguia has recorded multiple outfield assists in every season of his career.

Marozas walked the bases loaded in the seventh with one out, and an RBI single by Tomás Nido that made it 8-0 ended his day.

Sam Gardner replaxced Marozas, and an error brought home another run and made it 9-0 WooSox.

Tyler Samaniego was Worcester’s first option out of the bullpen for the seventh, and he worked around a two-out walk to post a scoreless inning.

Gardner continued into the eighth inning for Buffalo and navigated a two-out base hit to finish a scoreless four-out appearance.

In the bottom of the eighth, Patrick Halligan posted a 1-2-3 inning.

Position player William Simoneit came on to pitch for the third time in 2026 in the ninth. He recorded his first career strikeout since 2021 and second overall, then allowed an RBI double to Franklin Arias down the third-base line to put Worcester in double digits.

Osvaldo Berrios faced the minimum in the ninth for Worcester, and a double play helped him finish the job.

The Bisons and WooSox will play the fifth game of this six-game set on Saturday at Sahlen Field at 6:05 p.m. RHP Richard Gallardo will toe the slab for the Bisons.
