Bisons unable to keep pace with Rochester 12-4 on Wednesday

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bisons opened up a three-run lead early but were outmatched by the Rochester Red Wings 12-4 on Wednesday night at Sahlen Field.

The Bisons took advantage of Matt Krook’s second inning of work in the start for Rochester. Josh Kasevich reached on a throwing error by the third baseman and scored three batter’s later. Kasevich and RJ Schreck scored on a Peyton Williams two-run base hit to center field to open up a 2-0 advantage. Schreck doubled to right field after Kasevich reached base.

Buffalo’s lead reached three after Josh Stephan faced the minimum batters through three innings. Daz Cameron hit a one-out triple off the left field wall last night. He scored on a Kasevich base hit to center field. His 46th RBI of the season gave the team a 3-0 lead over the Red Wings.

However, Rochester would answer with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at four. Each of the first six batters reached in the top of the fourth against Stephan, with three scoring. Seaver King was hit by a pitch and scored thanks to a Trey Lipscomb RBI base hit. Buddy Kennedy collected a base hit to right field and scored thanks to a Cayden Wallace single. Leandro Pineda’s RBI fielder’s choice scored Lipscomb to even the game 3-3 after the top of the fourth.

Another two-out base hit with a runner in scoring position for the Bisons allowed the team to re-take the lead. Shawn Ross tripled off the center field wall to set up the opportunity against the Red Wings bullpen. Rhylan Thomas singled to center to score Ross and make the score 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The hit gave Thomas a base hit in 10 of the 11 games he has played since being acquired and assigned to the Bisons.

Rochester was able to open up their first lead of the game thanks to back-to-back home runs in the top of the fifth inning. Cortland Lawson’s first career Triple-A hit was a solo home run to right-center field to tie the game at 4-4. That was followed up by a solo home run by Seaver King to give the Red Wings their first lead of the game, 5-4 in the fifth.

Riley Adams’ first hit of the night extended the lead to two runs, thanks to a two-out base hit. The Red Wings catcher followed a base hit by Kennedy with a single to right field that provided the visitors with a 6-4 advantage halfway through the game.

Rochester scored two more times in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to four. Lawson reached base on a one-out walk, while Jonathan Thomas replaced Kennedy who was hit by a pitch. Both runners scored on a base hit to right field by Wallace to give the infielder three RBIs on the night and the Red Wings an 8-4 lead. They would tack on three more runs in the seventh for an 11-4 advantage.

The Bisons and Rochester will meet for game three of their six-game series Thursday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Richard Gallardo is slated to start for Buffalo.
