The Blue Jays fell a half-game back in the Florida State League's North Division on Monday night thanks to an uncharacteristically sloppy perfomance in a 13-6 loss to the Fort Myers Miracle. Entering the day in a three-way tie at the top of the North's standings, the Blue Jays had an opportunity to take sole possession of first place with both Clearwater and Daytona's games postponed, but instead made three errors, allowed 13 hits, and walked 10 opposing batters in a losing effort.
RHP T.J. Zeuch started for Dunedin and labored early, allowing five runs in the second and three more in the third. He finished the day having allowed nine hits, eight runs, and a pair of walks over 5.0 innings with five strikeouts. After the shaky start, Zeuch was able to prevent the Blue Jays bullpen from becoming overworked with a week remaining until Dunedin's next off-day, facing the minimum in the fourth and fifth inning.
The Miracle scored five more runs off Dunedin relievers on just four hits thanks to eight walks by the Blue Jays bullpen. In total, the Jays walked ten batters, a season-high.
Offensively, DH Max Pentecost led Dunedin, finishing 2-4 with a double and four RBIs out of the leadoff spot. Both SS Troy Tulowitzki and 3B Josh Donaldson finished the day 0-2. Both rehabbing stars reached base, Tulowitzki on a walk and Donaldson on a hit-by-pitch. CF Josh Almonte knocked a pair of hits and drove in a run. 1B Juan Kelly extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double in the eighth, his 14th double of the year.
The Blue Jays will be back in action tomorrow evening at 6:30 PM at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. LHP Ryan Boruck will take the mound for Dunedin in game two of their four game series with Fort Myers looking to get the Jays back into first place.
