Portland, ME - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball is pleased to announce that Garabez Rosa of the Bowie Baysox has been selected as the winner of the 2017 Eastern League Most Valuable Player Award.

Portland, ME - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball is pleased to announce that Garabez Rosa of the Bowie Baysox has been selected as the winner of the 2017 Eastern League Most Valuable Player Award.

Rosa hit .310 (162-for-523) with 24 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 91 RBIs, 75 runs scored, one stolen base, a .444 slugging percentage, and a .333 on-base percentage in 124 games this season while appearing in games at first base, second base, third base, left field, center field, and right field. Rosa's performance helped lead the Baysox to their second playoff berth in the past three seasons, as they finished in second place in the Western Division standings with a record of 72-68.
The 6'2", 166 lb. slugger wound up winning two of the three legs of the Eastern League Triple Crown, leading the league in batting average (.310) and RBIs (91). Garabez also led the league in hits (162) and finished ranked among the league leaders in total bases (232-2nd) and runs scored (75-tied 2nd).
Rosa, who is a native of Cotui, Dominican Republic, was selected as the utility player on the Eastern League All-Star Team and was chosen as a member of the Western Division roster for the 2017 Eastern League All-Star Game in New Hampshire.
Garabez, who has appeared in a franchise record 590 career games over parts of five seasons with the Baysox, was originally signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a non-drafted free agent on November 2, 2006.
Erie SeaWolves outfielder Christin Stewart finished second in the voting for the MVP Award and Akron RubberDucks catcher Francisco Mejia finished in third place. This award was voted on by Eastern League managers and coaches and members of the media.
