The game was a pitcher's duel early on as Rome's Joey Wentz and West Virgina's Oddy Nunez combined to strike out fifteen batters while only allowing four hits in the first five innings. West Virginia was the first to scratch the scoreboard in the sixth when Albert Baur hit an RBI double to score the game's opening run. The Braves came back to tie it in the eight when Lucas Herbert hit a double off the wall to score Cristian Pache and knot the game at 1-1.

The game would carry on into extra innings and West Virginia would break the tie in the twelfth inning on an RBI single by Brent Gibbs to take a 3-2 lead. However, Rome was able to tie the game in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Marcus Mooney. The game carried on until the fifteenth inning when Garrett Brown hit an RBI single to plate the go ahead run for the 3-2 lead. The Braves fell short of another rally in the bottom half as West Virginia took the game by the 3-2 final. Wentz finished with a final line of seven innings, giving up one earned on four hits with six strikeouts.
Andrew Potter (1-1) earns the win for Rome while Taylor Lewis (0-1) takes the loss for Rome.
Rome and West Virginia will face off in game two of the four game series tomorrow at 6p.m.
