Break Out The Brooms: Renegades sweep BlueClaws in doubleheader, extend winning streak to six

Lakewood, N.J. (Aug. 21, 2026) – The Hudson Valley Renegades swept a doubleheader from the Jersey Shore BlueClaws at ShoreTown Ballpark on Friday night, winning game one 5-1 and taking the nightcap 2-0.

The wins for the Renegades extended their winning streak to six straight games, their longest winning streak of the season.

The shutout win in game two of the doubleheader was the fifth shutout win of the season for the Renegades and their first since 6/28 (G1) at Bowling Green.

This was the third doubleheader sweep by the Renegades this season. Hudson Valley has now swept three doubleheaders, split three and been swept in two this year.

The sweep brought the Renegades to two games over .500 on the season for the first time since they lost to Frederick on 5/13. The high-water mark for the Renegades this season is six games over .500.

The Renegades improved to 29-23 in the second half of the season and are 1.0 games back of Greensboro who currently sit in the second-half playoff spot.

The Renegades have won 11 of their last 13 games, their best 13-game stretch of the season. Hudson Valley has won seven straight road games as part of this streak.

Hudson Valley allowed only one run across the two games of the doubleheader, the least they have allowed in a doubleheader in 2026. It was the fewest runs allowed by the Renegades in a doubleheader since they allowed one run in a doubleheader at Wilmington on 8/1/2026 (L, 1-0; W, 2-0).

The Renegades move to 11-11 overall against Jersey Shore on the season.

Renegades starting pitchers threw a combined 9.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K in the two games of the doubleheader.

LHP Pico Kohn (4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) struck out four batters across 4.0 innings in his fourth start of the season. Both hits he allowed were triples, but he stranded both runners on third.

It was Kohn’s longest outing since 4/3 at Brooklyn when he threw 5.2 innings on Opening Night.

Kohn’s four strikeouts were his most since he fanned eight on 4/3 at Brooklyn.

Kohn has allowed 1 ER or fewer in all four of his starts this season. Friday’s start was his first this season not allowing a run of any kind.

Kohn threw 40 of his 52 pitches (76.9%) for strikes.

RHP Luis Serna (5.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K) struck out seven batters across 5.2 one-hit innings in game two of the doubleheader, picking up the win.

Serna completed 5.0 innings for the third straight start and allowed 0 R for the second time in his last three outings. Over his last three starts Serna is 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA (15.0 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 17 K).

Serna walked back-to-back batters in the fifth inning, the first time that he had walked multiple batters in a start since 7/8 vs Rome. In six starts since then, Serna had walked three and struck out 33 across 25.1 innings.

Serna leads the South Atlantic League with 121 strikeouts and Opponent’s AVG (.221) and is second in IP (104.0) and WHIP (1.16).

Serna’s 121 strikeouts are second-most by a Renegades pitcher in a single-season, trailing only Drew Thorpe’s 138 strikeouts in 2023.

CF/DH Jackson Lovich (1-for-6, 2 R, 2 BB, SB) scored runs in both games of the doubleheader.

Lovich drove in his 81^st RBI of the season with the sac fly, which leads all Yankees minor league players.

His stolen base in game two was his 13^th with the Renegades and his 34^th on the year between the Renegades and Tampa.

DH/C Eric Genther (1-for-6, 2 BB) reached base three times across the doubleheader while batting leadoff in both games.

2B Enmanuel Tejeda (1-for-6, 2B, RBI) had an RBI double in game two of the doubleheader.

RF Willy Montero (1-for-3, R, HR, 2 RBI) hit his first home run with the Renegades in the top of the second inning of game one of the doubleheader. The blast gave Hudson Valley a 2-0 lead which they would never relinquish.

Montero blasted 12 home runs in 78 games with the Single-A Tampa Tarpons.

RHP Hansel Rincon (0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K) escaped a bases-loaded one-out jam in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one to earn his second save of the season.

It was his second save in as many games after he recorded the save in the Renegades’ 6-5 win over the BlueClaws on Wednesday. Rincon had not recorded a save since 8/3/23 with the ACL Diamondbacks before Wednesday.
