HELENA, MT - The Helena Brewers (15-19) were held to just five hits in a 5-1 loss to the Ogden Raptors (19-15) at Kindrick Legion Field on Monday night.
After working around a pair of base runners and striking out the side in the first inning, Brewers starter Michael Petersen (0-2) ran into trouble in the second. Ronny Brito singled to start the frame and stole second before advancing to third on a Brayan Morales single. During the ensuing at bat, Morales broke for second base, forcing a throw from catcher Payton Henry that trickled into center field. Brito raced in to score on the throwing error and the Raptors took a 1-0 lead.
The big blow of the night came in the fifth inning. Petersen walked Morales and hit Kevin LaChance to put two runners on base. Raptors center fielder Jeren Kendall got ahead in the count and sent a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for his first home run of the season, giving the Raptors a 4-0 lead. Petersen was lifted from the game after the homer, allowing four runs in 4.0 innings of work off six hits while walking one and striking out five. The Raptors added on another run against reliever Alec Bettinger before the inning came to a close, stretching their lead to 5-0.
Helena responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Zach Clark led off with a single and advanced to second on a ground out by Yerald Martinez. Nick Roscetti ripped a double to the gap in left, scoring Clark to put the Brewers on the board at 5-1. Roscetti advanced to third but was left stranded when Gabriel Garcia struck out. It was the last base runner the Brewers had in scoring position.
The Brewers were held without a hit after a one-out single in the sixth, and managed just one base runner in the final three innings, a two-out walk to KJ Harrison.
Helena continues their three-game series with the Raptors on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM.
