CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-handed starting pitcher Jeff Brigham has been named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for April 5-15, announced by the league office on Monday morning.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-handed starting pitcher Jeff Brigham has been named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for April 5-15, announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Brigham in two starts to begin the season is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA with 18 strikeouts compared to two walks and six hits allowed in 10 scoreless innings to begin the season.
"I'm feeling good and I'm healthy for the first time in a long time, and I'm having a good time pitching in front of a good crowd," Brigham said. "The environment in Jacksonville has been unbelievable, I haven't seen anything like that in a minor league ballpark."
Brigham earned a victory in his first start of 2018 on Saturday April 7 in frigid temperatures against the Jackson Generals at The Ballpark at Jackson. Brigham tossed five scoreless innings scattering only two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. He rode the momentum of Eric Jagielo's 3 RBI in the first three innings to leave with a 3-0 lead, and Jacksonville won its first game of the season 3-2.
In his second start of the season on Thursday April 12 in front of 7,654 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, Brigham earned the victory against the Mobile BayBears with five scoreless innings where he scattered four hits, walked one batter, and matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts. The Jumbo Shrimp offense provided him plenty of run support, as Jacksonville won the game 9-2.
Brigham leads the Southern League in ERA (0.00), strikeouts (18), second in WHIP (0.80), second in highest strikeouts per nine innings pitched among starting pitchers (16.20), second in fewest baserunners per nine innings (7.20), and the fifth lowest batting average against (.182) among starting pitchers.
Brigham, 26, is a native of Federal Way, Washington, and is in his first season pitching at the Double-A level. Brigham was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2014 draft out of the University of Washington, and was traded to the Marlins on July 30, 2015 as part of the deal that sent major leaguers Mat Latos and Michael Morse to the Dodgers.
While this is Brigham's first Southern League honor, he was honored last year as the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week on July 8, 2017. Brigham battled injuries with High-A Jupiter last season, going 4-2 with a 2.90 ERA in 11 starts for the Hammerheads.
Mobile BayBears infielder Hutton Moyer was named the league's Player of the Week, and this is the first week awards have been issued by the Southern League in the 2018 season.
The Jumbo Shrimp will begin a 10-game road trip with a five-game series starting tonight with the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field at 7:15 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Max Duval (0-0, 3.60 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Chattanooga right-handed pitcher Zack Littell (0-1, 5.40 ERA). Fans can listen to the game on the Jumbo Shrimp Network presented by Community First, beginning at 7 p.m. eastern with the pregame show "Shrimp On Deck" locally on Sunny 102.3 FM, on the TuneIn Radio app, and www.jaxshrimp.com.
