LANSING, Mich. - Jake Brodt swatted his 11th home run of the year and Griffin Conine blasted his 14th, but the Lansing Lugnuts (17-18, 49-55) fell to the South Bend Cubs (18-17, 55-48), 13-4, on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Andy Weber went 4-for-6, Fidel Mejia finished 3-for-5, and each drove in three runs to lead the South Bend offense, which has outscored the Lugnuts 19-4 in winning each of the first two games of the three-game series.

Lugnuts starter Sean Wymer (Loss, 5-10) lasted 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs in the second inning and two more in the third.

He was relieved by Marcus Reyes , who extended his scoreless streak to 21 2/3 innings before the streak ended on a run-scoring wild pitch in the sixth inning. Juan Nuñez came on for Reyes and allowed three inherited runners to score, plus another run, in a five-run Cubs rally that increased a 4-1 lead to 9-1 and put the game out of reach.

An opposite-field shot from Brod
t in the seventh inning brought the Lugnuts within 9-2.

An inning later, after South Bend had scored its tenth run, Conine smoked a 422-foot home run off The View in left-center, a two-run shot.

The Cubs wrapped up the scoring with three unearned runs in the ninth against Lugnuts catcher Ryan Gold , pushed into emergency pitching duties.

South Bend starter Cam Sanders (Win, 6-4) gave up one run on two hits and three walks in five innings, striking out three. Derek Casey (Save, 1) pitched the final four innings, serving up both home runs.

The Lugnuts will look to stave off the series sweep on Monday at 12:05 p.m., a Summer Fun Day matinee. Lansing right-hander Juan De Paula (7.81 ERA) starts opposite South Bend right-hander Riley Thompson (2.78).
