Bryson Hammer Named NWL Pitcher of the Month

July was officially 'Hammer Time'. Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) today announced the Player and Pitcher of the Month Award winners for July in Major League Baseball’s player development system, with Spokane Indians southpaw Bryson Hammer taking home Pitcher of the Month honors for the Northwest League.

Hammer went 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in four starts as he allowed 11 hits and nine walks over 20.0 innings, while striking out 26. He led the league in ERA (1.35), average against (.157), hits allowed per nine innings (4.95) and strikeouts per nine innings (11.7).

A 12th-round draft pick out of Dallas Baptist University by the Colorado Rockies in 2023, Hammer spent worked exclusively out of the bullpen his first three years in the organization before shifting to Spokane's starting rotation in May.

"Bryson has made strong transition from the bullpen to the starting rotation this season," said Spokane Indians pitching coach Blaine Beatty. "Starting has allowed him to develop as a pitcher and he's adapted incredibly well. He's ready for the next level, and I'm excited to see how he faces this new challenge."

Hammer, 24, was promoted to Hartford following a final start with the Indians on August 1, and departs Spokane as the NWL leader in ERA while also ranking among the circuit's top 10 in wins, strikeouts, innings, average against and WHIP among all qualified pitchers. Overall, the left-hander has recorded a 21-12 record, 3.33 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, seven saves, 212 strikeouts and 95 walks in 107 career minor league appearances (14 GS).
