The Durham Bulls closed out their 2017 home schedule in record fashion, hosting crowds of 10,000 paid fans or more on four consecutive days for the first time in the team's history. From Thursday, August 24 through Sunday, August 27, the DBAP welcomed 42,206 paid fans, besting the previous four-day record of 38,733 which was set in June of 2015.
The record marked the third attendance record the team set in 2017, after opening the season with the team's best seven-game start in franchise history, and setting the team's single-game paid attendance record on July 4 by hosting 11,897 fans for the Independence Day celebration. Durham finished the season by welcoming 547,841 paid fans to the DBAP in 2017, the second-highest total in team history behind 554,788 fans in 2015.
"Every year we're blown away at the support we receive from our fans," Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said. "To open a season with an attendance record and close a season with an attendance record is no small feat, and these kinds of numbers show just how lucky we are to have the fan base that we do."
Over the four-game stretch the team sold over 18,000 Bright Leaf hot dogs, 2,000 gallons of Pepsi products and 3,000 gallons of beer. Further, 338 jerseys (including 100 personalized jerseys) were sold in the Ballpark Corner Store, along with 1,500 t-shirts and 1,350 hats. Over the course of the four days, the team garnered just over a combined 1 million impressions on social media between Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
