DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls (16-12) fell behind early after a two-run first inning and the Toledo Mud Hens (17-11) added four runs in the fourth to defeat the Bulls 6-1 in the series finale Sunday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Mud Hens' leadoff batter Mikie Mahtook was hit by pitch to begin the game and scored on a single from Christin Stewart later in the frame, putting Toledo in front 1-0. Jim Adduci added an RBI single, extending the Mud Hens' lead to 2-0 through the first inning.
In the fourth, the Mud Hens added four runs on four hits, including a three-run home run by Mahtook extending their lead to 6-0.
The Bulls scored their lone run in the fourth off Toledo starter Artie Lewicki, when Christian Arroyo followed a two-out double by Joe McCarthy with an RBI single to right field, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
Lewicki (W, 3-2) earned his third win of the season, tossing 6.0 innings, and allowing one run on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Hunter Wood (L, 1-1) completed 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts as he fell into the loss column for the first time this season.
The Bulls open a four-game series with the Norfolk Tides (16-11) on Monday. Southpaw Anthony Banda (3-2, 4.30) is scheduled to start for the Bulls against Tides' righty Jimmy Yacabonis (0-0, 3.57). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the DBAP.
