(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - After scoring three runs in the top of the 1st inning, Vancouver put the game out of reach in the top of the 3rd inning when Canadians catcher Owen Spiwak hit his 1st home run of the season, a grand slam, to help pace the C's to a convincing 10-1 victory over Spokane out at Avista Stadium.
The Canadians drew a season-high eight walks from Indians pitching and set a season-high, striking out 16 times in the lopsided victory. Only one Vancouver hitter had a multi-hit night as DH Cameron O'Brien went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits and a run scored. Seven different Canadians hitters drew walks on Saturday including two free passes to 1B Kacy Clemens.
Just one day shy of his 21st birthday, Canadians RHP Dalton Rodriguez went 3 1/3 innings allowing four hits and striking out five before handing the start off to LHP Miguel Burgos who improved to 3-0 after going 2 2/3 innings allowing just one run while LHP Jake Fishman went three full innings allowing no runs on three hits to secure his first save of the summer.
With the win, Vancouver (35-27; 14-10) maintains a share of top spot in the North Division alongside Tri-City (34-38; 14-10) who topped Everett out at Memorial Stadium. Note: Vancouver finishes 9-3 (.750) against Spokane in 12 regular season games.
