VANCOUVER, BC – A six-run bottom of the seventh would help the Canadians secure an 8-1 victory over the Spokane Indians (COL) Thursday night in front of a sold-out crowd at The Nat. After Spokane scored their lone run in the top of the third, the Canadians answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Jake Casey triple. They would go on to score six times in a wild bottom of the seventh, where they sent 11 men to the plate thanks in part to four extra-base hits. The C’s would score another in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 8-1.

Spokane scored an unearned run in the top of the third to break up the scoreless tie. In the bottom of the frame, JoJo Parker singled then Casey hammered a ball to the right field corner for a run-scoring triple, tying it at one.

In the seventh, the C’s plated six runs on six hits – four for extra bases – and had 11 men come to the plate. The inning started with a groundout before Dameury Pena sent a ball in between the bullpens, where the ball wedged itself in the outfield gates and was ultimately ruled a ground rule double. A walk in the next plate appearance put two men on base for Casey to get a go-ahead RBI double. Ryan Sprock followed with a two-RBI single and advanced to third on a missed catch error then a walk for David Calabrese put two men aboard. Both runners would make their way to home plate on a Jean Joseph triple then, after a pitching change, a rule book double from Gable Mitchell would plate the sixth run of the inning and make it 7-1.

The Canadians used consecutive singles from Parker and Casey in the eighth to add another score and take a seven-run lead for the win.

8 Blue Jays prospect Dasan Hill got the start and retired the first eight batters he faced before surrendering a two-out walk, an infield hit and a run-scoring error in the third. Hill went on to scatter a total of three hits while working into the fifth inning, walking one and striking out six in his finest outing since joining the Jays via trade earlier this month. In the fifth, Holden Wilkerson (W, 8-7) took over for Hill with two outs and a man on base. Wilkerson kept the remainder of the game scoreless. His final line: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K.

With the win, the C’s have cut their magic number to make the playoffs down to seven with nine games to play. They look to lower that number again tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. as Troy Guthrie takes the ball opposite Spokane’s Lebarron Johnson Jr.
