(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - A bases-clearing double off the bat of 2B Kelvin Melean was enough to sink the Vancouver Canadians on Sunday afternoon as Tri-City avoided a three-game sweep with a 7-3 victory in front of a sold out Scotiabank Field.
The double capped off a three-run top of the 2nd inning that extended the Dust Devils lead to 4-0. Melean's double scored Luis Anguizola, Chandler Seagle and Robbie Podorsky.
After the Dust Devils extended the lead to 5-0, the Canadians rallied for a trio of runs in the bottom of the 4th inning that featured a two-run home run from DH David Jacob, his 3rd of the season.
Tri-City pulled away with a run in the top of the 5th and 6th innings as Vancouver was shut down by the Tri-City bullpen that bent but didn't break as the Canadians tried to draw even late. The C's had the bases loaded in the 8th inning but Bryan Lizardo popped out to left field to end the inning.
Tri-City starter Nick Margevicius (1-0) grabbed the win in his first Northwest League appearance while Wilfri Aleton, who struggled over his three innings allowing five runs on eight hits, falls to 2-5.
Vancouver falls to 3-4 (.429) in the second half, and 24-21 overall heading into the Northwest League All-Star Break that will see Riley Adams, William Ouellette and Orlando Pascual suit up in the August 1st mid-summer classic.
Vancouver Canadians Baseball resumes on August 3rd with a five-game series set for Hillsboro, Oregon as the Hops welcome the C's through August 8th. The Canadians then return home for an eight-game homestand vs Tri-City (Aug 9-11) and Salem-Keizer (August 12-16) with tickets available at www.canadiansbaseball.com,
