LAKEWOOD, N.J. (April 16, 2018) - Three Grasshoppers pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout in a 1-0 win at FirstEnergy Park on Monday. Greensboro starting pitcher Edward Cabrera worked 6.0 no-hit innings before Bryce Howe and RJ Peace preserved the shutout to seal the win.
Cabrera dueled BlueClaws starting pitcher Connor Brogdon, who threw 5.0 scoreless innings of his own, as the game remained deadlocked 0-0 through seven innings.
In the top of the eighth, Greensboro took advantage of a pair of walks to plate the game's only run. Marcos Rivera led off the inning with a base hit, and B.J. López and Zach Sullivan added walks to load the bases with one out. Aaron Knapp singled through the right side of the infield to score Rivera. The Hoppers missed out on adding more runs though, as Garvis Lara grounded to first base, where Gregori Rivero fielded and threw home to prevent a run before Isael Soto struck out to end the inning.
Howe (1-0) used the lone run as fuel, following a scoreless seventh with an even stronger eighth inning - striking out two batters in a perfect frame. He earned the win with 2.0 innings pitched and two strikeouts while working around the only hit Lakewood mustered all game. RJ Peace spun a perfect ninth for the save (1).
The Grasshoppers continue this 3-game series against the BlueClaws on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park.  Greensboro is back at First National Bank Field on Thursday, April 19, to open a 4-game home stand against the Charleston RiverDogs. Tickets are available online at gsohoppers.com.
