(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - After erasing an early three-run deficit, the Vancouver Canadians left the bases loaded with no one out in the top of the 9th inning leaving the door open for the Spokane Indians to walk-off in the bottom of the frame when CF Miguel Aparicio grabbed a game-winning single to center off of LHP Jake Fishman to hand Spokane a 4-3 win.
The Canadians (13-9; 34-26) left 12 runners on-base on the night including the three in the top of the 9th to miss out on an opportunity to move two full games clear of the North Division with just 16 regular season games remaining. SS Deiferson Barreto was the lone Vancouver player to collect a multi-hit night going 2-for-4 in the loss.
The hard luck loser on Thursday night was RHP Juan Nunez who falls to 2-7 on the season despite going 5 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball before handing the ball to LHP Jake Fishman who came in to face CF Miguel Aparicio. The Indians leadoff hitter did not have a hit in the game prior to collecting the game winner that improves Spokane to 12-10 on the second half and 28-32 overall.
Note: The loss snaps Vancouver's five game winning streak which falls one game shy of the longest streak of the summer (July 2-7).
Vancouver will wake up Friday just one game clear of all three North Division rivals as Everett topped Tri-City out at Memorial Stadium in Everett, Washington.
The Canadians will play game three of this four-game road trip on Friday, August 18th at 6:35pm out at Avista Stadium as RHP Nate Pearson (0-0, 0.00) goes opposite RHP Cole Ragans (3-2, 3.80).
Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Sunday, August 20th at 5:05pm to open a three-game series against North Division rival Everett with tickets available at www.canadiansbaseball.com.
