(Eastlake, OH) - A first-inning double steal plated the first run and had the Lake County Captains (1-0) off and running to a 4-0 victory over the Great Lakes Loons (0-1) on Opening Night at Classic Park. The Captains scored two runs in the first, two more in the third and rode behind strong pitching by a trio of hurlers to a shutout win.

The Captains used their wheels early in the first inning. Jose Fermin led off with a single to left and raced to second on an error by left fielder Dan Robinson. Fermin later stole second and Will Benson worked a walk to put runners on the corners. With Ruben Cardenas at the plate, Benson took off for second. Loons catcher Hunter Feduccia fired the ball to second and Fermin broke for home. Benson beat the throw to second and Fermin dove home, headfirst with the game's first run. Later in the frame, Josh Rolette flared a single to centerfield that plated Benson to make it 2-0.
Lake County struck again in the third, again thanks to Benson. The Captains' left fielder roped a double that banged off the wall in right-center and scored on a single by Cardenas. An error put Rolette on first and Loons starter Stephen Kolek worked back-to-back walks, the first to Bo Naylor and the second with the bags full to Marcos Gonzalez , bringing Cardenas home and making it 4-0.
Luis Oviedo earned the win with five shutout innings. The right-hander got the opening-night start and held the Loons to four hits with no walks. Oviedo (1-0) struck out five batters, four of which came in his last two innings on the hill. Aaron Pinto relieved Oviedo with two shutout frames that included three punch-outs and Dakody Clemmer nailed down the final six outs without allowing a hit.
Kolek (0-1) lasted just 2.2 innings and suffered the loss. He walked four, surrendered four hits and struck out one. The Captains scored all four runs against Kolek and three of them were earned.
The Captains and Loons meet again on Friday night at Classic Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
