Cardinals Erupt in Series-Opening Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Aug. 25, 2026) — Four homers and 15 hits for the Springfield Cardinals (34-18) overwhelmed the San Antonio Missions (23-29) as the Cardinals claimed an 8-0 victory in the first of six games from the Show-Me State.
The Cardinals wasted little time getting to Missions starter Eric Yost as Rainiel Rodriguez and Josiah Ragsdale each homered in the first inning to make it 2-0 Springfield.
After a clean second for Yost, he allowed tallies in the next three frames as the Cardinals flew away with the game. The third inning saw four straight singles for the Cardinals leading to two runs, Rodriguez homered again in the fourth and Jack Gurevitch singled in a run in the fifth. By the end of the fifth, the Cardinals led 6-0 against Yost, who gave up a career high of 11 hits and three home runs.
San Antonio didn’t threaten much offensively as Cardinals starter Liam Doyle cruised. He struck out six, walked just one and scattered four hits across his 5.1 scoreless innings. He gave way to the bullpen in the sixth inning, where Nolan Sparks worked around two singles to keep Springfield comfortably ahead.
With Harry Gustin in the game in the seventh inning, Deniel Ortiz joined the homer parade. His two-run shot made it 8-0 Springfield.
Andrew Schultz, Sandro Santana and Domenic Picone each completed scoreless innings to neatly wrap up Springfield’s series-opening 8-0 win.
