Casetta-Stubbs flings six scoreless in 1-0 win

CHARLESTON, W. Va. (June 11, 2019) - Damon Casetta-Stubbs hurled a career-high six scoreless frames and combined with two Power relievers to hold the Delmarva Shorebirds to four hits in a 1-0 win Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park. 
Casetta-Stubbs (3-5) dealt early and often for West Virginia (32-33), as he began the game with three scoreless frames, scattering three hits and stranding four baserunners. In the third, the Power struck for their only run of the ballgame, as Charlie McConnell reached on a fielding error by Alexis Torres to start the frame. Drew Rom (4-1) then issued back-to-back walks to J.R. Davis and Utah Jones before Julio Rodriguez grounded into a fielder's choice that scored McConnell from third to give West Virginia a 1-0 lead.

Casetta-Stubbs finished his outing by retiring the final ten batters he faced, setting a new career-high in innings pitched (six) and strikeouts (seven) in the process.
Benjamin Onyshko entered out of the bullpen in the seventh inning, but threw eight pitches before he spun a strike. That opening stretch worked Onyshko into trouble with runners on first and third with one out in the inning, but he retired Ben Breazeale and Torres to end the Shorebirds' (46-18) threat. Onyshko then fired a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
With the 1-0 lead in tact, Bryan Pall (S,3) was handed the ball in the ninth for his third save opportunity of the season. Despite surrendering a leadoff single, Pall retired the next three hitters to close out the 1-0 West Virginia win.
Tuesday's victory marked the second 1-0 win for the Power this season, and their first since Opening Night, when they took down the Greenville Drive in 10 innings on April 4.
West Virginia concludes its three-game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds Wednesday evening at Appalachian Power Park, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. LHP Steven Moyers (5-4, 4.77 ERA) toes the slab for the Power, while the Shorebirds counter with LHP Nick Vespi (3-3, 4.60 ERA).
