Stockton, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes came back from a two-run deficit for the third straight game, rallying to down the Stockton Ports by a final of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Banner Island Ballpark.
While offense was tough to come by in the series, Rancho posted series bests with five runs and six hits, with Donovan Casey and Jeter Downs both collecting two hits each for the first time this year.
Rancho starter Gerardo Carrillo scuffled a bit in the first inning, as the Ports scored a pair of runs to take the early lead.
The Quakes responded in the second though, as Devin Mann walked with the bases loaded to bring home Carlos Rincon, putting Rancho on the board at 2-1.
In the fourth, the Quakes exploded for four runs to take the lead for good. Casey blasted his first homer of the year with Marcus Chiu aboard, giving Rancho a 3-2 advantage against Stockton starter Wyatt Marks. Devin Mann doubled after the Casey bomb and then scored all the way from second base on a Brandon Montgomery groundout, making it 4-2. After Jeren Kendall walked with two outs, Downs doubled him home to cap the scoring at 5-2 and chase Marks (0-1).
Carillo walked the leadoff batter in the fifth and was removed in favor of Sven Schueller (1-0), who got out of the fifth and then escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth.
Logan Salow and Ryan Moseley combined to work the final three innings, with Moseley recording his second save in as many chances.
After their first series win of the year, the Quakes (3-1) will look for a fourth straight win at Recreation Park in Visalia on Monday night. Michael Grove (0-0) will make his pro debut, while Visalia will send Cole Stapler (0-0) to the mound in his 2019 debut. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for the home opener on Thursday, April 11th, as they host the Lancaster JetHawks for a four-game home stand.
