MOBILE, Ala. (May 6, 2019) - Jesus Castillo came just one strike away from a complete-game shutout in an 8-2 win for the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in the series opener Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Castillo (1-4) retired the first 13 batters of the game before issuing a one-out walk in the fifth inning. He did not give up a hit until the top of the sixth. The Jumbo Shrimp (10-21) plated a pair of runs on three straight two-out hits in the ninth to snap their 30-inning scoreless drought. Castillo tossed a career-high 8 2/3 innings and earned his first win of the season.
The BayBears (13-17) scored a first-inning run for the first time in 30 games. Jhoan Urena reached with a two-out single, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored on a Bo Way RBI single. Mobile added three additional runs with the help of two Jacksonville errors in the second, and Jack Kruger hit his first home run of the season off Cody Poteet (2-3) in the fourth.
Mobile snapped its three-game losing streak with the victory, while Jacksonville dropped its seventh consecutive game. However, the Jumbo Shrimp avoided their ninth shutout loss of the season with the two ninth-inning runs.
