CORPUS CHRISTI - Cole Hertzler, Joey Mancini, Colby Langford, Andrew Marrero, and Amilcar Chirinos teamed to hold the high-powered Springfield Cardinals to two singles in a 4-0 Corpus Christi win Wednesday night at Whataburger Field.

The Hooks snapped a four-game skid with their fifth shutout of the year.

Jason Schiavone put the home club in front, 2-0, in the first inning with his 31st long ball of the year. The no-doubt blast to left capitalized on a lead-off single by Tyler Whitaker.

Schiavone, who leads the Astros system with 31 home runs, 84 RBIs, and a .944 OPS, has gone deep eight times in his past 13 games.

Walker Janek made it a 3-0 bulge with a long home run to left-center in the third. Janek, turning in his seventh Double-A home run, is batting .309 in 32 games since the all-star break.

Whitaker, who went 3-for-4 from the lead-off spot, produced a two-out RBI double to center in the fourth.

Hertzler fanned four against two hits and one walk in his 3.0 inning start.

Mancini earned the victory by recording nine outs on 26 pitches. A lead-off hit batsman in the fourth was the only man to reach against the Boston College product.

Langford, Marrero, and Chirinos each pitched a hitless frame to finish the ballgame.
