Charlotte Salvages Series Finale With PawSox

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Dan Butler notched a multi-hit game, and Jordan Weems made a solid Triple-A debut, but the Pawtucket Red Sox fell to the Charlotte Knights, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.
The PawSox (48-56), who were seeking the sweep of the three-game series, stranded 11 runners, including at least one in eight of the nine innings. Charlotte (49-56), meanwhile, scored in each of the first five innings, constructing its 8-0 lead by the midpoint of the ballgame.
Hours after arriving at the ballpark following his promotion from Double-A Portland, former third-round pick Jordan Weems made his Pawtucket debut by throwing three innings of one-run work. Weems, who converted from a position player to a pitcher early in the 2016 season, flashed a mid-90s fastball and prevented any significant further damage from Charlotte's offense. Robby Scott then added two scoreless innings. PawSox starter William Cuevas (L, 7-6) ceded five earned runs (seven total) on seven hits and a walk in four innings.
Butler (2-for-4) led the way for a Pawtucket offense that recorded seven hits but went 0-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
Charlotte starter Jordan Guerrero (W, 3-0) spun 5.1 shutout innings despite walking four.
Charlotte center fielder Ryan Cordell started the ballgame with a leadoff triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly from super-prospect Eloy Jiménez (3-for-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI).
Knights shortstop José Rondón led off the second inning with a solo homer to left field that left the bat at 103 MPH.
With two outs in the top of the third inning, Jiménez stroked a two-run shot the opposite way with an exit velocity of 103 MPH to bump Charlotte's lead to 4-0.
In the fourth inning, Charlotte loaded the bases with two outs, and a Pawtucket error produced two more runs and stretched the Knights' advantage to 6-0.
An inning later, Charlotte catcher Seby Zavala blasted a two-run homer to center field.
Following the six-game homestand, the PawSox hit the road and kick off a four-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals) on Monday at 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium. Pawtucket right-hander Justin Haley (5-7, 3.59) is scheduled to oppose Syracuse righty Austin Voth (4-7, 4.13). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 6:05 p.m.
