PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 6th through August 12th.

Portland Sea Dogs third baseman/first baseman Michael Chavis has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 6th-August 12th. The 23-year old batted .560 (14-for-25) with two doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, seven runs scored, one stolen bases, one walk, and a .880 slugging percentage in six games last week. Chavis, who is a native of Marietta, Georgia, had multiple hits in five of the six games he played in last week, including going 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs in Portland's 10-9 win at Erie on Thursday night. The 5'10", 216 lb. slugger led all Eastern League hitters in batting average (.560), hits (14), total bases (22), on-base percentage (.593), slugging percentage (.880), and OPS (1.473) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in runs scored (7-tied 2nd), home runs (2-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (4-tied 3rd), RBIs (6-tied 6th), stolen bases (1-tied 6th), and doubles (2-tied 10th). Chavis is hitting .309 with five homers, 15 RBIs, and 15 runs scored in 22 games for the Sea Dogs this season. Michael, who is rated by MLB.com as the top prospect in the Boston organization, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first round with the 26th overall pick of the 2014 draft out of Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia.

Ryan Bollinger, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 6th-August 12th. The 6'5", 230 lb. hurler started one game for the Thunder last week and had a record of 1-0 with three strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Bollinger, who is a native of Maples Grove, Minnesota, made his lone start of the week on Wednesday afternoon against the visiting Altoona Curve and fired seven shutout innings in Trenton's 2-1 victory. The lone hit allowed by Bollinger was a leadoff single in the top of the fourth inning and he struck out three batters while walking two over his seven innings of work. The 27-year old tied for the league lead in wins (1), ERA (0.00), and WHIP (0.43) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in batting average against (.048-2nd) and innings pitched (7.0-tied 7th). Ryan, who has a record of 7-4 with 69 strikeouts and a 4.18 ERA in 14 starts for the Thunder this season, was signed by the New York Yankees as a minor league free agent on December 16, 2017. He was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 47th round of the 2009 draft out of Magic City High School in Minot, North Dakota.
