Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps. The Chiefs improve to 12-17 for the season headed into the rubber match with the Whitecaps on Wednesday morning with Cardinals lefty Tyler Lyons making a rehab start.   

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps. The Chiefs improve to 12-17 for the season headed into the rubber match with the Whitecaps on Wednesday morning with Cardinals lefty Tyler Lyons making a rehab start.
    The Whitecaps struck first in the second inning against Chiefs starter Mike O'Reilly. Blaise Salter doubled down the third base line past Danny Hudzina for the first hit of the game and advanced to third on a groundout. Salter scored with one out when Josh Lester grounded out to the right side of the infield to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.

    The Chiefs got even in the fourth inning when Andrew Young led off against West Michigan starter Eudis Idrogo, homering to deep left field to tie the game at 1-1. The home run was Young's fourth of the year and his second at Dozer Park.
     The game remained tied until the eighth inning, when Nick Plummer singled off Whitecaps reliever Locke St. John and advanced to second base on an error by right fielder Danny Woodrow. J.R. Davis singled to right and Plummer scored on an error by Woodrow to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. Davis moved to third when Tommy Edman reached on an error by Will Savage at second base, and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field from Brian O'Keefe to make it a 3-1 Chiefs lead.   
    O'Reilly threw five innings while allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts in a no-decision. Austin Sexton (1-0) earned the win, throwing three innings without allowing a hit or run with two strikeouts. Brady Bowen earned his first save of the season in an inning of work with a strikeout.
Notes… This is the first time this season that Carlson, Plummer, and Denton have played in the outfield together… Young broke a hitless streak of three games with a three-hit day… Knizner is on a six game hitting streak and Trosclair is on an eight game hitting streak, but neither were in the lineup today… Davis' single in the eighth was the first base hit with a runner in scoring position since Edman's go-ahead single in the top of the ninth on Friday… Today was Edman's birthday…Sexton retired all nine batters he faced in his Chiefs debut…There were no walks in the game…A day after playing the longest 9-inning home game of the season at 3:10 the teams played the Chiefs shortest 9-inning game of the season at 2:01…The Chiefs three pitchers combined to retire the final 13 Whitecaps as only Salter had a hit for West Michigan going 2-for-3… The home stand continues Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with the series finale against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers)… Wednesday is Bang for your Buck Wednesday at Dozer Park, where fans can get $1 hot dogs, sodas, and nachos every Wednesday all season long… It will also be Education Day presented by Ameren Illinois…The Chiefs will start Cardinals LHP Tyler Lyons (0-0, 0.00) in a rehab start against Whitecaps RH Alfred Gutierrez (2-1, 4.22)… The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 10:45 a.m. Central on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive which also has downloads for a free app on the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Android…The broadcast is also available on the Peoria Chiefs Network in the Tune-In Radio App
