PEORIA, IL (August 20, 2017) - The Clinton LumberKings left 10 men on base in a 2-0 loss to the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park on Sunday afternoon. Both teams registered seven hits in the game, but Clinton (24-32, 55-68) failed to get a runner to third following the fourth inning.
The game looked as though the LumberKings would strike first in the top of the first inning. A Johnny Slater single, and Chiefs (30-26, 60-65) error combined with an Evan Kruczynski wild pitch put runners at second and third with nobody out. Clinton failed to push a run a across when the next three batters were retired without getting a ball out of the infield.
Kruczynski (3-3) continued to be tested by the LumberKings over his five innings of work. Clinton left a runner on in the second, the bases loaded in the third, and two more runners on the fourth, which made eight men left on base through the first four innings.
Peoria scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning against LumberKings starter Ryne Inman. The Chiefs rallied with two out in the first, with a Dylan Carlson walk and Danny Hudzina RBI double that put the Chiefs on top for good.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Chiefs added one more run when they strung four singles together off Inman (1-4), his last inning of work. Carlson drove home the run with an RBI single to right. The hit also ended the inning when Mick Fennell was caught in a rundown to end the frame.
Tyler Watson kept the Chiefs at bay from the sixth inning onward. The LumberKings reliever turned in three shutout innings of work.
Yeison Medina worked the final two innings for the Chiefs and earned his seventh save of the season for closing the door on the LumberKings in the eighth and ninth innings.
The LumberKings will conclude their four-game series with the Peoria Chiefs on Monday afternoon. Left-handed pitcher Danny Garcia (6-11, 6.04) will take the ball for Clinton and face the Chiefs right-handed pitcher Frederis Parra (3-4, 3.03).
