Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs gave up two early homers and lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits 11-1 Tuesday night in game two of the four-game series. The loss drops the Chiefs to 16-27 on the season and into last place after Burlington beat Kane County earlier in the day.
Quad Cities jumped out to a first inning lead against Chiefs starter Steven Farinaro. Carmen Benedetti singled with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch with two outs. Yordan Alvarez put the hosts on top 2-0 with his second home run of the season over the left-center field wall before Farinaro got out of the inning.

The River Bandits got a big inning in the second to break the game open. Oswaldo Duarte hit his second homer of the season with one out for a 3-0 lead, the ninth homer allowed by Farinaro this season. Daz Cameron followed with a triple and had to stay at third base when a grounder by Wander Franco hit base umpire Raul Moreno for a single. Stephen Wrenn's single gave the Bandits a 4-0 lead and a bases loaded single by Rodrigo Ayarza made it 6-0.
Peoria finally got on the board in the fourth inning against Gabriel Valdez, who did not allow a hit in his first 10 batters faced. For the second day in a row the first Chiefs hit came from Stefan Trosclair who doubled down the third base line. Andy Young followed with a double of his own to left to get the Chiefs on the board but the next two batters were retired with Quad Cities leading 6-1.
The Chiefs loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth but didn't score. Juan Yepez collected his first hit in a Chiefs uniform to start the inning, Dylan Carlson walked and Nick Plummer was hit by a pitch. Valdez responded by striking out Shane Billings and Tommy Edman before giving way to Erasmo Pinelas. The Bandits reliever escaped the inning with a strikeout of his own to keep the Chiefs off the board.
Quad Cities added on in the sixth inning as they knocked out Farinaro. A one out walk to Franco ended Farinaro's night and reliever Austin Sexton got a strikeout before walking Benedetti. Ayarza doubled off the right-field wall to score both runners for an 8-1 lead before Sexton got out of the inning.
Quad Cities put the game away in the seventh inning with help from the Chiefs defense. With two outs Duarte singled and Cameron reached on a fielding error by Yepez. Franco tripled home two past a diving Billings and Max Almonte took over on the mound for Sexton. Stephen Wrenn beat out an infield single to score Franco for an 11-1 lead before Almonte got out of the inning.
Farinaro (1-4) took the loss as he allowed seven runs on 10 hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings without recording a strikeout. Sexton allowed four runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk over 1 1/3 innings while striking out two. Almonte allowed one hit and walked one over 1 1/3 shutout innings with a strikeout.
