Chiefs Fall 11-2 Tuesday

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs lost 11-2 to the Kane County Cougars in game two of the series on Tuesday afternoon. The Chiefs are 4-2 in the second half and 43-33 overall with the series finale scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs lost 11-2 to the Kane County Cougars in game two of the series on Tuesday afternoon. The Chiefs are 4-2 in the second half and 43-33 overall with the series finale scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.

    The Cougars jumped out to another early lead on Chiefs starter Franyel Casadilla in the top of the first. Yoel Yanqui continued the inning with a two-out infield single followed by a Ernie De La Trinidad walk. Ryan Grotjohn cleared the bases with a three-run homer over the right field wall as Kane County went ahead 3-0.
    Kane County added to their lead in the top of the third inning. Grotjohn smacked a one-out double down the right field line and Tim Susnara drove him in on a line drive double to left center for a 4-0 advantage.
    Another Cougars run came across in the top of the fourth. Jancarlos Cintron bunted for a single to lead off the inning but he was caught stealing for the second out of the inning. Jasrado Chisholm drew a two-out walk and Yoel Yanqui singled to right as Chisholm scored on a throwing error from right fielder Scott Hurst. Yanqui advanced to second on the throw as well while Kane County took a commanding 5-0 lead.
    The scoring continued in the top of the fifth for the Cougars. Grotjohn led off with a single to left and was brought in on a double by Susnara. Luis Lara singled home Susnara to widen the margin to 7-0.
    Peoria answered in the bottom of the sixth using the long ball against Cougars starter Jayson McKinley. Scott Hurst slammed a leadoff triple and with one out, Elehuris Montero cranked a two-run homer down the left field line for his team high eighth jack of the season as the deficit was cut to 7-2.
    A leadoff homer provided a quick answer for Kane County against Chiefs reliever Zach Prendergast in the top of the seventh. De La Trinidad delivered a solo blast to right center to extend the lead to 8-2.
     Three more runs capped off the Cougars scoring in the top of the eighth. Chisholm connected on a one-out double and with two down, De La Trinidad scored Chisholm on a single up the middle. Grotjohn singled again and Susnara walked to load the bases before Luis Lara singled to make it 11-2.
    Casadilla (0-1) took the loss throwing five innings allowing six earned runs on 12 hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Prendergast pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout. Dayton threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
