Midland, MI - The Peoria Chiefs allowed a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh and left the bases loaded in the eighth in a 2-1 loss to the Great Lakes Loons on Sunday afternoon. The Loons win the series 2-1 and the Chiefs are now 11-16 on the season heading into a six-game homestand.
Starters Bryan Dobzanski for the Chiefs and AJ Alexy for the Loons each cruised through four innings with just one hit allowed and the game scoreless. Great Lakes broke through first in the fifth inning against Dobzanski. Keibert Ruiz singled with one out and scored on a double to right by Gage Green for a 1-0 lead.

The Chiefs missed out on tying the game in the sixth in controversial fashion. Andrew Young hit a ground ball down the third base line for what appeared to be a double as it rattled around in the corner but the home plate umpire lost the ball and called it foul. Despite an umpire meeting the call wasn't changed and Young eventually struck out ahead of what would have been a game-tying single by Stefan Trosclair.
Peoria did tie the game in the seventh inning after manager Chris Swauger was ejected. Matt Davis, who hit his first professional home run on Saturday, delivered a one-out solo shot to right-center off Willian Soto to tie the game.
The game wasn't tied long as Great Lakes got a solo homer of their own from Cody Thomas in the bottom of the inning off reliever John Kilichowski. Down 2-1, the Chiefs loaded the bases against Soto in the eighth on two walks and a single with two outs but Davis grounded out to end the threat. Peoria also put the tying run on base with one out in the ninth but couldn't get even against Sven Schüller.
Dobzanski took a no-decision as he allowed one run on three hits over five innings while striking out three. Kilichowski (0-4) took the loss in his first relief outing since last June. He allowed one run on a solo homer, the only hit against him. He struck out five and walked two over three innings.
