Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs showed life with three runs in the fifth inning but the Quad Cities River Bandits scored three runs in the eighth to put the game away 8-3 on Sunday evening. The Chiefs are now 25-23 overall with the series finale on Monday at 5:15 p.m.

   The River Bandits got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first inning on Chiefs starter Alvaro Seijas. Jake Meyers led off with a single and he moved to second on a wild pitch followed by a Bryan De La Cruz walk. Corey Julks delivered a single to left to plate Meyers plus Bryce Denton's throwing error allowed De La Cruz to score as Julks advanced to third. Up 2-0 with two down, Michael Papierski hit a two-run homer over the wall in right field for a 4-0 River Bandits advantage.
   Quad Cities tacked on another run in the bottom of the third. Papierski was hit by a pitch with one out and reached second base when Dennis Ortega's throw to second was dropped by second baseman Irving Lopez. Roman Garcia looped a single to left field as Papierski scored an unearned run to make it 5-0.
  The Chiefs answered in the top of the fifth against River Bandits starter Parker Mushinski. JR Davis led off with a double down the left-field line and Lopez singled while moving up to second on the throw from right field to put two runners in scoring position. Yariel Gonzalez singled to left field bringing around Davis to get Peoria on the board trailing 5-1. Zach Kirtley reached on a fielder's choice and Elehuris Montero drove in two runs on a double down the left field line to cut the deficit to 5-3.
    Insurance runs came in the bottom of the eighth for Quad Cities against reliever Robert Calvano. Papierski singled to lead off the frame and Colton Shaver drove him home on a two-run homer to left for a 7-3 lead. Jonathan Lacroix walked and Meyers hit a two-out double to put two runners in scoring position. De La Cruz singled to score Lacroix for an 8-3 edge heading into the ninth inning.
   Seijas (1-3) took the loss going 5 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with five walks and one strikeout. Calvano threw two innings allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout. Saylor tossed 2/3 of an inning without allowing a run on one hit with no walks and one strikeout.
Notes… Peoria is 11-16 when the opponent scores first…The Chiefs have been outscored 48-22 in the first inning this season…Seijas allowed a career high 10 hits…Calvano made his Chiefs debut...
