Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs allowed runs in each of the first four innings and couldn't recover in a 9-5 loss to the Clinton LumberKings in Iowa on Thursday night. The Chiefs are now 2-5 in the second half and 32-44 on the season.

The first five LumberKings reached on hits and four scored in the first inning against Mike Brettell. The first three hits didn't leave the infield but it was already 2-0 when Evan Edwards doubled off the wall in left-center to bring home two more.
Clinton made it 5-0 with three more hits in the second inning. A walk, double and wild pitch in the third inning put Clinton top 6-0 before a single by Zach Scott added another run.
After loading the bases with no outs and failing to score in the third, the Chiefs got on the board in the fourth against George Soriano. Leandro Cedeno was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a bases-loaded double play. Wadye Ynfante, who reached on a single, scored from third on a single to left by Delvin Perez to cut the Clinton lead to 7-2.
Clinton got those runs back in the fourth thanks to two errors. After a single and catcher's interference, the first run scored on a double steal with a throwing error by Ivan Herrera. The second run scored on a sacrifice fly by Edwards as Clinton took a 9-2 lead.
The Chiefs scored two runs against reliever Cam Baird. With a runner on second and two outs in the sixth, Josh Shaw double to the wall in right to cut the lead to 9-3. An inning later, Juan Yepez doubled with two outs and scored on a double to left by Brady Whalen to make the score 9-4.
The final run of the game came in the ninth inning as the Chiefs passed the LumberKings in hits at 13-11. Herrera walked, Yepez singled and both moved up on a wild pitch. With one out, Cedeno drove home Herrera with a groundout for the 9-5 final score.
