The Syracuse Chiefs held off the Rochester Red Wings 8-6 Saturday night at Frontier Field, before a season-high crowd of 12,296. The series and homestand concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. with a Father's Day celebration that includes a baseball giveaway, an autograph appearance by actor Dwier Brown from the film "Field of Dreams," and much more.

The Red Wings started the scoring early in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run by Mitch Garver, his fifth of the season, off Syracuse starter Austin Voth, giving Rochester a 1-0 lead.
Syracuse didn't waste time tying the game at one as Clint Robinson hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning off Rochester starter Yohan Pino. The Chiefs took the lead later in the inning as back-to-back home runs and an RBI single made it a 5-1 ball game. Pino exited after allowing the early runs, and was replaced by D.J. Baxendale with two outs in the top of the second inning.
Pino pitched 1.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, no walks and no strikeouts. He threw 47 pitches - 33 for strikes.
The Chiefs extended their lead to 8-1 in the top of the fifth inning as a walk and a base hit set up a three-run home run by Brandon Snyder.
Rochester quickly answered after an RBI double and single by Niko Goodrum and J.B. Shuck cut the Red Wings' deficit to 8-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Voth was replaced by following Shuck's single. Scoring continued in the inning when Zach Granite hit an RBI single off Rafael Martin. The hit extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Matt Hague contributed a bases-loaded single, still in the fifth inning, scoring two and making it a 8-6 game.
Voth pitched 4.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, five walks and three strikeouts. He threw 108 pitches - 62 for strikes.
Kam Mickolio entered for the Red Wings to begin the top of the sixth inning and retired all 12 batters he faced.

THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY
1976 - Rochester outlasted the Charleston Charlies in a 14 inning 9-8 victory. The game finally ended when Kiko Garcia scored on a Taylor Duncan RBI single in the bottom of the 14th. Manager Joe Altobelli was forced to use 18 of his 21 players, including seven pitchers, throughout the course of the game.
THIS DAY IN INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE HISTORY
1926 - The Baltimore Orioles, champions of the International League for seven straight seasons, get a big win over Syracuse thanks to the Orioles' talented infield. Second baseman Heinie Scheer and shortstop Joe Boley turn a double play in six consecutive innings against the Stars. The Baltimore infield executes a twin killing in each frame from the 3rd to the 8th to lead the Orioles to victory. Despite fielding another very talented team in 1926, Baltimore would not be able to continue its run of
League Championships. The Orioles finished 101-65 - an impressive record, but 8.0 games behind pennant-winning Toronto.
