Chiefs Lose Series Finale to Captains 6-1

Robertson, Trosclair, Carlson record multi-hit games in loss

The Peoria Chiefs fell to the Lake County Captains 6-1 on Friday in the series finale falling to 13-9 in the second half and 43-48 overall. Peoria will host the Fort Wayne TinCaps for this first time this season with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
    The Captains scored the first run of the game against Peoria starter Frederis Parra in the first. Luke Wakamatsu singled with one out, and two batters later Li-Jen Chu doubled to the wall in right field to give Lake County a 1-0 lead.

  The Chiefs threatened in the bottom of the second inning against Lake County starter Brady Aiken. Vince Jackson drew a one-out walk and Dylan Carlson followed with one of his three doubles on the night to put runners on second and third with only one out. Aiken got Matt Fiedler to line out to shortstop and Kramer Robertson to fly out to center to end the threat.
    Lake County added a pair of runs against Chiefs reliever Dewin Perez in the top of the seventh inning. Logan Ice and Jose Medina each singled to put runners on first and second with nobody out. After Perez retired the next two batters, Conner Capel tripled to wall in right-center field with two outs to plate both Ice and Medina and give the Captains a 3-0 advantage.
    In the ninth, the Captains took a six-run lead by adding three insurance runs against Chiefs reliever Yeison Medina. Alexis Pantoja and Elvis Perez singled, and Mitch Longo blasted a three-run homer to right field to extend the Lake County lead to 6-0.
    Peoria scratched a run across the board in the bottom of the ninth against Lake County's Dalbert Siri. J.R. Davis led off with a single and Carlson connected on his third double of the game to score Davis and give the Chiefs their first run of the night, trailing 6-1. With Carlson at second, Matt Fiedler grounded out to second to end the game.   
    Parra (1-3) suffered the loss giving up one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts and one walk. Perez allowed three hits and two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Keaton Siomkin pitched a hitless inning in the eighth striking out two and walking two. Medina allowed three runs on three hits in one relief inning with a strikeout. 
Notes… Peoria had a five-game home win streak snapped… The Chiefs lost to the Captains at home for the first time in exactly six years on July 14, 2011 (seven straight wins and a tie)… For the first time this season, Carlson had multiple extra-base hits in a game… Carlson was the first Chiefs player since Vince Jackson on July 2 to have three doubles in a game… It was his 14th multi-hit game of the year… Kramer Robertson extended his hit streak to six games… It was his third multi-hit game… Stefan Trosclair recorded back-to-back multi-hit games and his 23rd overall… It was the first time in 11 games that Peoria didn't score first dating back to July 3… Medina allowed a run for a the first time since June 23 (six scoreless appearances in a row)… With his 8th double play hit into this season, O'Keefe is now tied for 2nd on the Chiefs career list with 28...He is tied with Ricardo Medina (1991-93) and one behind Chris Duncan's (2000-02) record of 29… The Chiefs will host the Fort Wayne TinCaps for the first time all season tomorrow with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch… Peoria will send All-Star RH Mike O'Reilly (8-2, 1.56) to the mound against TinCaps RH Mason Thompson (1-3, 5.50)… Friday night will be Jimmy Buffett Night with a Hawaiian T-Shirt giveaway to the first 1,000 fans (Ages 13 & up) followed with the Buffett jersey auction and all proceeds go to Pediatric Resource Center… Fireworks presented by CEFCU will follow the conclusion of the game tomorrow night… Tomorrow is also a Brimfield Insurance Agency Signature Saturday where various Chiefs players will be available to sign autographs pre-game on the main concourse… Saturday is the Samaritan Ministries Faith & Family Night… The broadcast can be heard, starting with the pregame show at 6:15 p.m. on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive which also has downloads for a free app on the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, and Android… The broadcast is also available on the Peoria Chiefs Radio Network in the Tune-In Radio App.
