Chiefs Lose to Clinton Friday 4-1

Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs lost to the Clinton LumberKings on Friday night by a final score of 4-1 at Ashford University Field. The Chiefs drop to 22-32 overall and will play game two of the three-game series on Saturday night with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. 
  Clinton took an early lead in the first inning against Chiefs starter Ian OxnevadRayder Ascanio doubled to lead off the inning. Yojhan Quevedo singled to right with two outs to score Ascanio and give the LumberKings a 1-0 lead.

    Kristian Brito led off the second inning with a single for the LumberKings against Oxnevad. Nick Zammarelli III tripled to center field to score Brito and give Clinton a 2-0 lead. Zammarelli scored during the next at-bat on a wild pitch to give Clinton a 3-0 advantage.
    Clinton extended their lead in the third inning with Oxnevad on the mound. Anthony Jimenez hit a leadoff homer to left field to tack on another run and make it a 4-0 LumberKings lead.
    The Chiefs cut into the Clinton lead in the ninth inning against reliever Danny Garcia. J.R. Davis hit a one-out double to left and scored when Vince Jackson singled through the middle to make it 4-1. Garcia was taken out and reliever Jack Anderson got Dylan Carlson and Shane Billings to ground out for the final two outs of the game.
    Oxnevad (0-6) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Max Almonte threw a perfect seventh inning. Dewin Perez went one inning without allowing a base runner in the eighth.
Notes… Davis and Jackson have four-game hit streaks and Davis recorded his 11th multi-hit game… Stefan Trosclair extended his hit streak to five games… Jose Martinez lost a five-game hit streak, which was his longest of the season… Oxnevad has the Chiefs longest pitcher losing streak with six...
