Chiefs Score Late Runs to Take Game One

Cedeno Homers For Third Time This Season

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Peoria Chiefs scored four late runs to take the win 4-1 over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in game one of the series Friday night. The Chiefs improve to 21-26 on the season with game two of the series set for Saturday at 6:35 p.m.

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Peoria Chiefs scored four late runs to take the win 4-1 over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in game one of the series Friday night. The Chiefs improve to 21-26 on the season with game two of the series set for Saturday at 6:35 p.m.

  The Kernels broke through against Chiefs starter Franyel Casadilla in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded and one out, Andrew Bechtold hit a sac fly to right field to score the first run of the ballgame to put the Kernels ahead 1-0. The Kernels stranded a man at third when Casadilla induced a popup to Nolan Gorman at third to end the inning.
     The Chiefs answered in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Jhon Torres started the inning with a single and advanced to third on a double from Wadye Ynfante. With one out, Torres scored on a Delvin Perez single to tie the game 1-1.
     Peoria took their first lead of the ballgame in the top of the seventh, knocking Kernels starter Tyler Palm out of the game. With one out, Leandro Cedeno launched his third homerun of the season to left field to give the Chiefs the 2-1 lead.  
     The Chiefs continued their late-game hitting to add to their lead in the ninth. Brady Whalen doubled with one out and scored on a double from Cedeno, his second RBI of the night to increase the lead to 3-1. After a Malcom Nunez walk, Torres singled to score Cedeno for the Chiefs final run of the game as they went on to win 4-1.
     Casadilla took the no decision, pitching five innings while allowing one run on three hits with one walk. Fabian Blanco (2-1) got the win as he pitched two scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out one. Sebastian Tabata closed the game with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two en route to his third save of the season.
     The Chiefs continue their series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Peoria will start RH Alvaro Seijas (3-4, 2.55) against Cedar Rapids RH Cole Sands (2-1, 2.48).
