Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs extended their lead in the Western Division Wild Card race by defeating the Clinton LumberKings on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park. The win improves the Chiefs to 30-26 in the second half and extends their lead in the Wild Card to 2 1/2 games

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs extended their lead in the Western Division Wild Card race by defeating the Clinton LumberKings on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park. The win improves the Chiefs to 30-26 in the second half and extends their lead in the Wild Card to 2 1/2 games over the Beloit Snappers, who lost on Sunday.
   The Chiefs got on the board in the first against Clinton starter Ryne Inman. With two outs, Dylan Carlson walked and scored when Danny Hudzina drove a double to left-center field to give Peoria a 1-0 lead. The double was Hudzina's 12th of the year and the RBI was his 25th.

   Chiefs starter Evan Kruczynski worked out of trouble in the third against the LumberKings. With one out, Joe Rizzo reached on an error and Yojhan Quevedo singled to left. Nick Zammarelli III drove a ball to deep left-center field, but Nick Plummer made a diving catch for the second out of the inning. Rizzo and Quevedo advanced to second and third on a wild pitch and Kruczynski walked Gareth Morgan to load the bases, but struck out Nick Thurman to end the inning and the threat.
    The Chiefs extended their lead in the fifth with Inman still on the mound for Clinton. Kramer Robertson and Mick Fennell started the inning with back-to-back singles, and with two outs Nick Plummer singled to shallow-right field to load the bases. With two outs Carlson singled to right and drove in Robertson to give the Chiefs a 2-0 advantage. Plummer and Fennell were caught in a rundown on the play, with Fennell being tagged out between third and home for the final out of the inning.  
    Kruczynski (3-3) tossed six shutout innings in the win, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out two. Ronnie Williams threw one inning out of the bullpen without allowing a run or a hit while walking three with a strikeout. Yeison Medina earned a save after throwing two shutout innings allowing one hit and striking out four.
Notes… Robertson hit seventh for the first time this season… O'Keefe hit second in the order for the second time this season… Hudzina extended his hit streak to five games… Carlson has scored a run in each of the last five games… Fennell had his ninth multi-hit game of the season… Carlson had his 24th multi-hit game… Kruczynski tossed his third quality start and the 49th overall for the Chiefs this season… His six-innings pitched matched a career high, which he's done three times… The shutout was Kruczynski's first scoreless outing since his four-inning debut on June 27… The Chiefs are 40-23 when scoring first… Peoria is 16-14 in day games… Peoria clinched the season series with the win and lead 8-6 … The Chiefs will play the season series finale against Clinton at 12:00 p.m. Monday…The Chiefs will send RH Frederis Parra (3-5, 4.06 ERA) to the mound against Clinton RH LJay Newsome (0-2, 5.40 ERA)… The broadcast can be heard, starting with the pregame show at 11:45 a.m. on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive which also has downloads for a free app on the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, and Android… The broadcast is also available on the Peoria Chiefs Radio Network in the Tune-In Radio App.
