Burlington, IA - The Peoria Chiefs split a double header on Saturday against the Burlington Bees, winning game one 5-1 but falling in game two 3-2. The Chiefs are 19-29 overall and will play game four of a five-game series against the Bees on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. first

Burlington, IA - The Peoria Chiefs split a double header on Saturday against the Burlington Bees, winning game one 5-1 but falling in game two 3-2. The Chiefs are 19-29 overall and will play game four of a five-game series against the Bees on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
    Andy Young powered the Chiefs to an early lead in the first inning of game one against Bees starter Erik Manoah Jr.. With two outs Young hit his sixth home run of the season to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

  The Bees evened the score in the third inning against Chiefs starter Jordan Hicks. Jahmai Jones led off with a single to center field and Jack Kruger walked. Brennon Lund singled to drive in Jones and make it a 1-1 game.
    Peoria took the lead back in the fifth inning against Manoah. Juan Yepez singled to left field with one out and scored when Dylan Carlson singled with two outs to give the Chiefs a 2-1 advantage.
    The Chiefs padded their lead in the seventh inning against Bees reliever Greg Belton. Ryan McCarvel and Vince Jackson hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Yepez gave the Chiefs a 5-1 lead with a three-run home run to left field.
    Hicks (6-1) earned his sixth win of the year while throwing six innings, allowing one run on five hits, five walks, and three strikeouts. Max Almonte had one inning of scoreless work while allowing one hit and a walk.
    In game two the Chiefs took a lead in the third inning against Burlington starter Mike Kaelin. Carlson walked and Nick Plummer was hit by a pitch, and Shane Billings loaded the bases with a single. Carlson scored when J.R. Davis grounded into a force out at short stop, but Plummer also crossed on a throwing error to first base during the same play to make it a 2-0 Chiefs lead.
    Burlington cut into Peoria's lead in the bottom of the third. Juan Moreno doubled to lead off the inning against Ian Oxnevad and scored when Mario Sanjur doubled to right field to make it a 2-1 Chiefs lead.
    The Bees took the lead away from Oxnevad in the sixth inning. Lund and John Schuknecht hit back-to-back singles with two outs to put the tying and go-ahead runs on base. Sam McDonnell hit a ball to left field, but Plummer committed a fielding error when the ball flew over his glove and allowed both runners to score, giving the Bees a 3-2 lead. Peoria went down in order in the seventh against Bees reliever Ronnie Glenn to end the game.
    Oxnevad (0-5) lost his fifth game of the season while throwing a complete game, going six innings while allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
