Huge sixth inning propels Peoria to 8-4 win

  The Peoria Chiefs swept the three-game series against Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with an 8-4 win at Dozer Park. The Chiefs are 22-31 overall and head to Clinton to take on the LumberKings for a three-game series starting Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. 
Ryan McCarvel led off the second inning for Peoria with a double against Rattlers starter Thomas Jankins. With one out, Dylan Carlson doubled to center field to score McCarvel and give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

  Wisconsin took the lead against Chiefs starter Jordan Hicks in the fourth. Mario Feliciano singled through the left-side of the infield but the big blow came off the bat of Tucker Neuhaus who hit a long home run to right field to give the Timber Rattlers a 2-1 lead.
     In the fifth inning with two outs, the benches cleared. Monte Harrison was hit by a pitch from Hicks and slammed his bat into the ground at home plate. Andrew Knizner and Harrison exchanged words heading up the first baseline and both dugouts emptied. Knizner and Harrison were both ejected and bench warnings were issued to both teams.
    In the bottom of the fifth Peoria tied the game against Jankins. McCarvel walked with one out, and Carlson struck out but reached on a wild pitch with two away to extend the inning. Nick Plummer singled to load the bases and Shane Billings singled to plate McCarvel and Carlson giving the Chiefs a 4-2 advantage. Jose Martinez extended the lead with a double to left field to score Plummer and Billings and give Peoria a 6-2 lead. Stefan Trosclair tripled home Martinez and J.R. Davis singled to score Trosclair which gave the Chiefs an 8-2 lead.
    In the ninth Wisconsin scored two runs against Chiefs reliever Ronnie Williams. Demi Orimoloye singled with one out, and Ronnie Gideon launched a two-run homer to left field to cut the Chiefs lead to 8-4. Williams struck out Trey York and Trever Morrison grounded out to first to end the game.
    Hicks (7-1) earned a win over six innings while allowing two runs on six hits with a walk while striking out eight. Williams closed out the game and earned his first save of the season, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
Notes… Hicks leads the team with seven quality starts and is tied for the league lead with seven wins… McCarvel and Trosclair have four-game hit streaks… Martinez has a five-game hit streak which is his longest of the season and is currently the longest active streak on the Chiefs… Young has a four-game hit streak, but got his first day in eight games which dates back to May 24 in Quad Cities… The Chiefs are 6-11 overall and 4-4 at home in the last game of a series this season… The six runs in the sixth inning were the most in a single inning by Peoria this season… This was the first three-game sweep at Dozer Park by the Chiefs since July 15-17, 2016 against Great Lakes… Williams save was the second of his career and first since July 12, 2014… Davis has his 12th multi-hit game of the season and 10th two-hit game of the year… Carlson's two-hit game was his fifth of the season… The Chiefs head to Clinton to take on the LumberKings on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch to open a three-game series… The Chiefs send LH Ian Oxnevad (0-5, 4.03) to the mound against Clinton RHP Robert Dugger (1-1, 3.07)… The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m. on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive which also has downloads for a free app on the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Android…The broadcast is also available on the Peoria Chiefs Network in the Tune-In Radio App.
