Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs tied the game in the top of the ninth but got walked off by the Clinton LumberKings 5-4 in 10 innings Wednesday night. The loss drops the Chiefs to 2-4 in the second half and 32-43 overall on the season.

The Chiefs got on the board first against Alberto Guerrero in the second inning. Brendan Donovan led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. With two down, Alexis Wilson beat out an infield single to score Donovan for the 1-0 lead.
Clinton came right back in the bottom of the frame against Colin Schmid. JD Osborne was hit by a pitch and Marcos Rivera put the hosts on top 2-1 with a home run to right.
Peoria see-sawed back on top in the third inning. Wadye Ynfante singled to center and Delvin Perez reached on a bunt single to put two on base. Two wild pitches plated Ynfante to tie the game and Perez scored on a sacrifice fly by Donovan for a 3-2 Chiefs lead.
Again the lead was short lived as an error by Donovan tied the game on what should have been an inning-ending double play. Schmid walked the next three batters to force in a run as Clinton went back on top 4-3.
The Chiefs were still down 4-3 when Clinton changed pitchers after the eighth inning. Josh Shaw greeted Nathan Alexander with a double to right-center and moved to third on a groundout. A wild pitch from Alexander allowed Shaw to score the tying run and give both starting pitchers no-decisions.
Clinton needed just two pitchers to win the game in the bottom of the tenth against Edgar Escobar. Evan Edwards doubled on the second pitch to score the ghost runner for a 5-4 Clinton win.
Schmid took a no-decision as he allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks as he struck out two and hit one over 2 2/3 innings. Parker Kelly tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings while allowing two singles and striking out four. Thomas St. Clair threw two shutout innings as he walked one and struck out three. Escobar (1-2) allowed one unearned run on one hit over one inning of work.
The series continues Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as the Chiefs start RH Mike Brettell (2-4, 4.22) against Clinton RH George Soriano (0-5, 4.96). The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:15 p.m. on the Peoria Chiefs Tune-In Page, which is free and also has a free app for smartphones and tablets
