CLINTON, IA (May 28) - Clinton LumberKings starting pitcher Chris Vallimont has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for May 20-26 after throwing 13 innings, not allowing an earned run, and surrendering just one hit. Over his two starts during the run, Vallimont took a perfect game in the seventh inning on May 21st in Beloit and then turned in six innings of one-hit ball against the Burlington Bees on May 26th.
Vallimont, 22, went 1-0 over the week with a 0.00 ERA, allowing just one unearned run while walking three and striking out 18.
His dominant week on the mound began against the Beloit Snappers at Harry Pohlman Field. Vallimont flirted with a perfect game while the team fell two outs shy of recording their 26th no-hitter in franchise history. He earned the win for his time out and did not allow a hit over seven innings of work. His perfect game bid came to an end in the bottom of the seventh when he allowed his only two base runners to reach on walks.
When the LumberKings returned home to meet the Burlington Bees, Vallimont continued his run of success. He set down the first 12 batters he faced in the start and did not allow a man to reach against him until the fifth inning. Vallimont ended the outing with a no decision but allowed just one unearned run on one hit while walking one and striking out nine.
The Erie, Pennsylvania native was drafted by the Miami Marlins 5th round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Mercyhurst College. He was named the LumberKings Opening Day starter and has not missed a start for Clinton this year. This season, Vallimont leads the team in quality starts (six innings or more of work with three or fewer earned runs allowed) with five.
Vallimont is the first LumberKing to win the award this season and the first to take home the league honor since Keegan McGovern was named Midwest League Player of the Week July 16-22 in 2018.
The LumberKings are on the road for a three-game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers) that opens on Tuesday night. Fans looking to hear the game can listen to Erik Oa call the action on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tunein radio app. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 6:20 p.m.
