Idaho Falls, ID - A night after allowing just one run in ten innings, the Chukars topped themselves in the second game of their four game set against Great Falls. Three Chukar pitchers combined to shut out the Voyagers, as Idaho Falls downed Great Falls 9-0. The Chukars have won three straight and three of four on the current homestand.
Voyagers starter Jason Morgan retired the first nine Chukars he faced, but the Chukars finally got to him in the fourth. Tyler Tolbert started the inning with a triple, and with one out Rhett Aplin walked. Juan Carlos Negret hit into a fielders choice, scoring Tolbert and forcing out Aplin out at second. Jimmy Govern then grounded a ball to third that Lency Delgado threw away, scoring Negret from first. Wyatt Mascarella then singled to left, moving Govern up to second. Isaiah Henry then singled to center, scoring Govern, but center fielder Cabrera Weaver then booted the baseball, allowing Mascarella to score and making it 4-0 Chukars. Henry got the second on the error, and scoring on a single from Kember Nacero.
In the fifth inning, Tyler James started the inning with a single and got to second on a fielding error from Anderson Comas. Two batters later Clay Dungan singled James home, and James eventually scored on a single from Negret, pushing the lead to seven and ending the night for Morgan. Henry capped off the scoring for the Chukars with a two run blast in the sixth inning, his sixth of the year.
Stephen Ridings picked up the win for the Chukars, going six innings, allowing just three hits, walking one, and striking out eight. Ridings in his final two starts of the regular season struck out a combined 20 in 13 innings. Derrick Adams & Jose Ramirez finished the shutout with one hit allowed in the final three frames.
Tomorrow is George Brett Night, with the first 700 fans through the gates receiving a George Brett bobblehead courtesy of JD's Haul It. VIP event tickets for a meet & greet with George are still available by calling the Chukars front office at 208-522-8363.
