Cole Peterson went 2-4 with the game-tying and go-ahead RBIs to carry the Flying Tigers past Clearwater in the resumption of Saturday's suspended game.
Anthony Castro started the game on fire, retiring the first nine Threshers he faced. Through the first three innings, he was matched pitch for pitch by Clearwater's Andrew Brown, who retired the first seven in his Florida State League debut. Troy Montgomery and the Flying Tigers finally got to Brown in the fourth, when he singled home Dylan Burdeaux.
Armed with a 1-0 lead beneath darkening skies, Castro allowed a solo home run to Threshers right fielder Jose Pujols. One out later, the game went into a rain delay and was suspended until Sunday morning.
After the game resumed Sunday, both teams traded runs in the sixth. Following a leadoff triple by Jose Gomez, Arquimedes Gamboa grounded out to plate Gomez and put the Threshers on top 2-1. Cole Peterson responded with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to even the score at two apiece.
Peterson's bat came in clutch again in the eighth, when he grounded a ball to first with runners on first and third. Threshers first baseman Kyle Martin threw home to try to nab Danny Pinero, who avoided the tag and scored the game-winning run.
Jose Azocar tacked on an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to put Lakeland up 4-2. Liarvis Breto finished the Sunday morning resumption and earned his second win of the season, lasting 4 2/3 innings while allowing just one run.
