ROUND ROCK, Texas – Round Rock Express LHP Cole Ragans was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for June 20-26 as announced by Minor League Baseball on Monday afternoon. Ragans is the first Express player to receive Pitcher of the Week honors in 2022.

Ragans made the start on Wednesday, June 22 at Oklahoma City as he tossed 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball and allowed only two hits. He walked two and struck out seven while throwing just 78 pitches. The lefty launched the pitching staff toward their second shutout of the year as RHP Jonathan Hernández, RHP Spencer Patton and RHP Josh Sborz all tossed one frame and did not allow a run.

Wednesday was just the second Triple-A start of his career. In his first outing against Sugar Land on June 16, Ragans allowed only two runs on six hits over 7.0 innings of work. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk. The Rangers’ No. 29 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, holds a 1.38 ERA (2 ER/13.0 IP) over his first two starts.

The Crawfordville, Florida native was promoted to Round Rock on June 14 after beginning the season with Double-A Frisco. Over 10 starts for the RoughRiders, Ragans pitched to a 6-3 record and a 2.52 ERA (16 ER/51.1 IP) while walking 19 and striking out 65.

Ragans was the 30th overall selection by the Texas Rangers in 2016. After undergoing ‘Tommy John’ ligament transplant surgery in March of 2018, he was preparing to make his return in May of 2019 when he had to undergo a second ‘Tommy John’ ligament transplant surgery. He returned to the field after 1,344 days when he pitched for High-A Hickory on May 5, 2021.

Round Rock returns to Dell Diamond on Tuesday, June 28 for the series opener with the Las Vegas Aviators (Oakland). Ragans is scheduled for the start against Aviators LHP Zach Logue (2-1, 5.49). First pitch at Dell Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
