Bridgewater, NJ -- The Somerset Patriots (65-40) used a dominant pitching performance, including 10 strikeouts from Deivi Garcia to overpower the Hartford Yard Goats (64-41) by a score of 7-3 on Friday night.

The performance marked Garcia's first win of the 2022 season, coming in his 11th total start and his fourth at the Double-A level for the Patriots. The 10 strikeouts were a season-high for Garcia and his most in a game since 2019.

The only two hits off of Garcia in his five innings of work came in the second inning, including a two-run homer for Hartford catcher Willie MacIver.

MacIver's home run trimmed what was once a 3-0 lead for the Patriots to 3-2.

Somerset took its initial lead in the game on the first of three hits in the game from Andres Chaparro.

Chapparo cracked his 10th total home run of the season, and his ninth with Somerset, over the left field wall to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Somerset tacked on one run in each of the second and third innings on run-scoring hits from Everson Pereira and Mickey Gasper.

Garcia departed from the game after a season-high five innings, before handing the ball off to Nick Ernst. Ernst hurled a season-high three scoreless innings, before Carson Coleman pitched the ninth and gave up the game's final run.

Somerset tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the 8th on hits by Chaparro and Rodolfo Duran to cap its scoring in the game.

The win ensures at least a series split for the Patriots, who will go for the series victory on Saturday night.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the Hartford Yard Goats at TD Bank Ballpark. Tickets are available at somersetpatriots.com.

Yankees No. 30 prospect RHP Matt Sauer will start in his Double-A debut, opposite RHP Mitch Kilkenny for Hartford.

Fans can follow the action live as Steven Cusumano calls the play-by-play on MiLB.tv and FOX Sports New Jersey 93.5 FM | 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Patriots Baseball, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m.
